Here's the tour to Edinburgh, with many pictures:
First signs of quite a different city
The famous Buchanan Bus Station
Our first destination - the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall - we arrived ten minutes early!
I had a look to the UGC cinema before, though - it's next to it
And another modern building
The huge National Youth Orchestra
To see more pictures of that great concert, click here
Outside again - I loved these colours
And further travelling waited for us - to Loch Lomond
And it's Youth Hostel, which was build for other purposes...
The breakfast room
DJH Mutterhaus - Welt Jugendherberge, 1909
The ceiling above the staircases
And the outside
The river to Loch Lomond
On our way back to Glasgow
Hörby Blasorkester
An Islamic woman with her mobile, watching the flute solo
The inner city
Buchanan Galleries
And the Royal Concert Hall, by day and seen from the other side
Four very different building styles...
Two of those
And a close-up to the brave workers
The Willow Tea Rooms - designed by the famous Glasgow architect and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Details on the walls
The jewelry, below the Tea Rooms
And: another great design of Mackintosh: The School of Arts
What does the expert say about such a power lead?
The School of Arts was too expensive to build it as once (according to our guide), so they build one (the left) part of it first - and expanded it later... that's why there are windows inside!
He build a fantastic mix of light and dark rooms
And a good view over Glasgow
Staircases, behind bars
Mackintosh installed windows over three stories!
A model of the house
Mackintosh used even this colour!
In the library
The clock and ceiling in the main hall - which was very light because of the windows on top - and even one of the first which were electrically lighted too!
I had a quick look back...
Here it is, the wonderful library!
But unfortunately we had to leave...
Deux Coleurs: Bleu - Kieslowski made two movies according to the Scottish national colour, bleu and blanc
Next station: the Huntarian Gallery - and, especially: the Mackintosh House next to it
In fact it is the first part of it; the debuilded the interiour of the original house, and restored it in this one
The old door is hardly useable in its new place
But still very nice
The guest room - just prepared for us
The bed wasn't very big, though
Modern resting places
I climbed the tower of the university library - and had a nice view over the impressive university!
And other parts of Glasgow
The Mackintosh house, seen from the other side
Down again
This student showed us the way out of the complex
On our way back to the center again: the Willow Tea Rooms
A funny hotel
There was a nice sunset at the far end of this road
The train bridge
A conserved facade
A modern shopping mall
The central station
Our last stop on that day: the UGC cinema tower, with a nice view over sleeping(?) Glasgow
All the escalators downstairs
Two great beds waited for us!
